The soils are the platform on which water moves, the water seeking the path of least resistance. In areas inbetween deep water and upland areas, wetland plants thrive where other upland plants can not compete in this oxygen deficient environment.
Soils consist of clay, silt and sands, and loams(which are combinations). Hydric soils are different due to the chemical changes that occur in the absence of oxygen(reduction). Hydric soils are often identified by the use of a Munsell soil chart by looking at the color hue, value and chroma.
